Latvian Song and Dance Festival – A Lifetime Cultural Experience!

Latvian Song and Dance Festival is the greatest cultural masterpiece of Latvian people!

It has become an event of national and international importance, bringing together people of different generations and nationalities, and in 2018 it promises to be especially magnificent because we will celebrate the centenary anniversary of the state of Latvia!

Although it is still quite a long time before the streets and squares of Riga are filled with singers, dancers and musicians dressed in beautiful national costumes from all over Latvia, the tickets are already on sale, so if you would like to be a part of something unique and grand, it’s high time to make plans for JULY – come to Riga and let’s have an amazing time together during the Festival!

The XXVI Latvian Song and XVI Dance Celebration will take place in Riga from 30 June to 8 July 2018.

During this Celebration week, Riga will host 40 000 participants from 118 Latvian municipalities. More than 1600 choirs, dance ensembles and music groups have already started preparing for the festival.

For seven days they will take part in more than 54 events. I.e. choirs, dance ensembles, brass bands, kokle players, folk musicians, vocal ensembles, folklore ensembles… There will be the Latvian folk costume exhibition, the Latvian applied art exhibition, and amateur theatre performances. 500 000 celebration-goers will be able to attend (ticketed and free) events.

Soon at Mežaparks open-air stage, where the Song Festival traditionally takes place, extensive reconstruction works will take place. After the works are completed, Riga will have an open-air concert hall with 35 thousand seats and standing room for 60 thousand. 11 thousand singers will perform on the stage and their clear and beautiful voices will be carried far over the tops of Mežaparks’ pine trees…

Make your plans for summer 2018 and have a once in a lifetime cultural experience!
